# Planning Center lists and workflows

> On Large, a role can ask for a Planning Center list or workflow, GiftWell can write who is ready for which role into a GiftWell Roles tab, and a webhook keeps holders current the same day.

GiftWell holds the facts. Planning Center does the doing. On Large, roles connect to Planning Center in three ways, each optional.

## Read: lists and workflows as requirements

In a [role's requirements](/docs/role-requirements), choose **On a Planning Center list** or **Completed a Planning Center workflow**, then pick the list or workflow. GiftWell reads who is on it every night. If a night's read fails, the last good read stays, so a requirement never empties by accident.

Good candidates: "Membership class finished", "Elders interest", "Group leader training".

## Write: the GiftWell Roles tab

An admin can turn this on under **Roles and Planning Center** on the Roles page. Each night GiftWell writes to a **GiftWell Roles** tab on each linked person:

- **Ready for**: the roles they are ready for.
- **Belong next step**, **Become next step**, **Lead next step**: their next step in each track, using your track names.

Only what changed is written, at most 150 people a night. A pastors-only role is never written, and neither is a reason, a quality or a note.

Planning Center decides who can see a tab. Restrict the GiftWell Roles tab to the people who should see it, in Planning Center People under Customize Fields.

Your Lists and Automations can then act on it: a list of everyone ready for Guest host, or a workflow card when someone's Lead next step changes.

## Hear: the webhook

Add a Planning Center webhook so a change shows up the same day rather than the next night. On the Roles page, under **Roles and Planning Center**, copy the **Webhook URL**. In Planning Center's Webhooks, add it for People and Groups events, then paste the authenticity secret Planning Center shows back into GiftWell. GiftWell checks the signature on every delivery and refuses anything it cannot verify.

## The ask, as a card

When a role names a Planning Center workflow, [Who knows them](/docs/who-knows-them) can open a card in that workflow instead of sending an email.

See [Planning Center](/docs/planning-center) for connecting in the first place.
