# Who knows them

> For anyone ready or growing toward a role, see who knows them best, such as their group leader, the person walking with them or their serving team lead, and ask that person what they see, by email or a Planning Center card.

For: Leader, Pastor, Admin, Owner
Canonical: https://giftwell.app/docs/who-knows-them

When someone is on a role's Ready or Growing list, the next move is usually not to ask them. It is to ask someone who knows them: "How do you see Maya lately?"

## Finding them

On a role page, choose **Who knows them?** beside a person. GiftWell lists the people closest to them, each with how:

- **Leads their group**, from Planning Center Groups.
- **Walks with them**, from [Walking with](/docs/walking-with).
- **Serves with them**, on the same Services team, and already holds a role.
- **Placed them**, when someone on your team placed them on a ministry.

Addresses are never shown on the page, and AI agents never get them.

## Asking

Choose **Ask them** beside one, and GiftWell drafts a short note:

> I'd love to hear how you see Maya lately: how they are with people, and where you see them growing. Just reply to this email; it comes straight to me.

Change it however you like, then **Send by email** or **Open a Planning Center card**:

- **By email.** It goes from GiftWell in your church's name, and their reply comes straight to your email.
- **As a Planning Center card.** Large: when the role names a Planning Center workflow, GiftWell opens a card there for the person who knows them, with your note.

The note names the person, never the role. A group leader asked about Maya does not learn that you are thinking of her for eldership.

## Then

When you have heard back, say what you now know on the role page, such as **I can say character**. When everything is met, they move to **Ready**. Telling them is yours to do, when you are ready.

The demo church never sends anything. An ask there is written down and goes nowhere.
