Spiritual gift · 1 Peter 4:9–10
The spiritual gift of hospitality
Making room for people.
What it looks like
You notice who is on the edge of the room, and you make a space, whether a table, a conversation or a home, where they belong before they have earned it.
How GiftWell spots it
The assessment asks five statements for Hospitality. Each is answered from 1 (not like me at all) to 5 (very much like me), so the gift is scored out of 25. Most ask about things that have actually happened, because a gift shows up in what you do more reliably than in how you describe yourself.
- I notice the person standing on their own, and I want to make sure they feel welcome.
- I enjoy opening my home or my table to people I do not know well yet.
- In the past year, I have had someone new, or on the edges, over for a meal or coffee.
- Someone who arrived as a stranger has stayed connected, partly because I made room for them.
- People have told me they felt at home with me, or that I made a place feel welcoming.
Results come back as bands: every gift within three points of your strongest shares your lead band, and the ±2 margin is drawn on the chart. If Hospitality shares your lead band with another gift, your result describes the pair, like the combinations below.
What to watch for
Hosting as a performance. A present host matters more than a perfect table, and the meal does not have to impress anyone to welcome them.
A question to sit with
When has your table or your home made someone feel they belonged? Who would you love to have over?
