Walking with: reminders, another month, the guide and asking for input

Published October 21, 2026

In this release

  • At most two reminders, and another month
  • A short guide, with your safeguarding lines
  • Ask for input, by role not by name

The first walks in the pilot showed where a suggestion can stall: an email missed, a busy week, nobody quite sure what the first meeting is for. This release fills those gaps.

At most two reminders, and another month

Each person gets at most two short reminders, and the first email tells them so. The Walking with page now shows the date each waiting suggestion lapses, and a week before it does, the pastor who suggested it hears once. If the person being walked with has said yes and the other needs longer, Give them another month keeps their link open for 30 more days, once.

Why: a yes that arrives on day 61 should not be lost, and a reminder nobody asked for should never become a stream of them.

A short guide, with your safeguarding lines

Both people get a four-page guide from their emails: what walking with someone is, the first conversation, when it is hard, and ending well. The pages about the first conversation and hard moments open with your emergency number and your safeguarding contact.

Why: the covenant says what you promise each other; the guide says what to do on the first evening.

Ask for input, by role not by name

Once a walk has started, the one walking with someone can ask for input from the pastor who suggested it, another pastor, or the person who walks with them. GiftWell sends one short email, with replies going straight to the one who asked. The weekly digest now has a Walking with section too: new walks for pastors, and their own waiting suggestions for the pastor who made them.

Why: nobody should walk with someone alone, and nobody should be told more than they need to know.
