Pipelines

Belong, Become and Lead as one picture. See where people are on every step, how each track has moved over twelve weeks, who has finished one track and not begun the next, and the names behind every number.

Pipelines and Roles: finding your next group leaders 1:42

See this screen in the demo church

Pipelines is the pastoral dashboard for your whole pathway. Every step on your pathway belongs to one of three tracks:

  • Belong: are they plugged in? Coming on Sundays, in a group, serving somewhere.
  • Become: are they being formed? Walking with someone, reading what your pastors suggest, keeping a rule of life.
  • Lead: are they using their gifts to lead? Walking with someone themselves, training, holding a role.

A person sits in all three at once. Someone can be new to a group, growing fast in formation, and already leading a team. That is why Pipelines is three columns, not a funnel.

The river

At the top of the page, your three tracks run left to right as one river. Every step is a point along it:

  • The dark core is how many have passed that step.
  • The light edge is how many have it as their next step.

Where the river narrows, people are thinning out. Where it bulges with a light edge, people are pooling at a step. Where one track is wide and the next begins with a wide light edge, people have walked one track and not yet begun the next. In most churches that is the gap between Become and Lead: people who come every week and keep growing, and have never been asked to lead.

Point at a step, or tab to the river and use the arrow keys, to read it: its track, its stage, how many are here next and how many have passed. Click a step, or a number in that line, to see who.

Ready for the next step

Under the river, Ready for the next step counts the people who have walked every Become step, names the Lead step that comes next for them, and shows how that number has moved over twelve weeks. See who lists them. Beside it, Places to fill shows the roles still short of people as seats: one filled seat for each person holding the role, an empty one for each place to fill, then the people close to it, ready in gold and growing toward it in dashed gold. Each group of seats opens those people on the role's page.

Each track

Below, each track shows its steps in order. Each step has a bar for how many have passed it, and two counts: here next (it is their next step) and passed. Under each track are two totals, with a small chart of the last twelve weeks:

  • Walked every step: people who have done every step in the track.
  • Stuck: people with a next step in the track who have not taken a step in it for 90 days.

Point at a chart to read any week. Every number opens the people behind it, by name. Names follow the same rules as everywhere else: someone who asked to be held back, or who is under 18, is counted but never named.

Where someone stands is worked out fresh from what GiftWell can see, and that cannot be replayed for a past week. So every night GiftWell writes down the week's counts, never a name, and the charts read them back. The current week is always live, so a chart's last point matches the page it sits on. A week with no record is a gap in the line, never a zero, so a church that starts this month sees its line begin this month. The charts show the whole church, so they are hidden while a ministry is picked.

Narrowing it down

  • Ministry. Pick a ministry to see only the people serving or placed there. A ministry leader only ever sees their own ministries; the choice lists only those.
  • Saved views. Save what you are looking at, such as "Stuck before leading" or "Kids volunteers still in Belong", and it comes back as a pill at the top of the page. Each person keeps up to eight. They are yours; nobody else on the team sees them.

Your words, not ours

Belong, Become and Lead are the defaults. An admin can rename each track, for example to Assimilation, Discipleship and Leadership, and change the question it asks. The new names are used everywhere: this page, My GiftWell, roles, Planning Center fields and AI agents.

Who sees what

  • Pastors, admins and owners see the whole church.
  • Ministry leaders see the people in the ministries they look after.
  • Viewers see the counts only, and a count under three reads "fewer than 3" so it cannot point at someone. Their charts leave those weeks as gaps, and the river draws them as a sliver.

Nothing on this page is shown to the people in it. In My GiftWell a person sees their own next step in each track, never a count, a column or a word like "stuck".

On the Overview

Pastors, admins, owners and ministry leaders also see the river, the twelve-week chart of each track and the places to fill on the Overview, and every mark there opens the same lists. A ministry leader sees only their own ministries there too, and so no whole-church chart.

Where to go next

Pipelines shows where people are. Roles shows where you need them, and who is close.
