What a role asks

Requirements GiftWell can check, such as a stage, gifts, months serving or a background check, and qualities only people can see, such as character, chemistry and calling, said by someone who knows them.

For: LeaderPastorAdminOwner

A role asks two kinds of things. GiftWell checks some of them, and people say the rest.

What GiftWell checks

Requirement Met when
Has reached a stage They are at that stage of your pathway or beyond
Gifts One of the gifts you list is among their strongest on the assessment
Has served They have served somewhere, or held a role, for at least that many months
Background check Planning Center shows a current background check
Holds another role They hold that role now, such as "Holds Small group leader" for elders
On a Planning Center list Large: they are on a list you choose, such as "Membership class finished"
Completed a Planning Center workflow Large: they completed a workflow you choose

When GiftWell can't know, the reason says so: "Hasn't taken the gifts assessment" or "Planning Center hasn't said". An unknown is never counted as a no.

What only people can say

Every role asks three qualities:

  • Character: they live a life others can follow.
  • Chemistry: they fit with the people they would serve beside.
  • Calling: they sense it, and the church recognizes it.

A role can add up to six of its own, such as "Manages their household well" for elders.

A quality is met when someone on staff who knows them says so. On the role page, press I can say character (or chemistry, or calling) beside their name. Your name and the date go with it, and you can take your word back anytime. GiftWell never infers a quality from data, and never shows the person that it was said.

How the lists use them

Every requirement and every quality is one item. Ready means every item is met. Growing means one or two items still to go, and at least one met. That is why a new role often starts with an empty Ready list: nobody has spoken to character yet. Saying it, for the people you already know, is often the first step.
